Rochester Precision Optics (RPO) designs and manufactures high performance mid and long wave infrared aspherical optical lenses and elements utilizing precision molding and diamond turning technologies. RPO has a proprietary moldable infrared glass material called Optir™. It offers excellent part to part uniformity, with lower manufacturing and material costs. Optir™ glass combines the benefits of moldable infrared chalcogenide glasses and RPO’s precision molding technology. This provides economical solutions for manufacturing infrared optics. The Optir™ glass further offers a low thermal change in refractive index (72x1O-6K-1) which is a benefit to systems designers in avoiding thermal defocusing. Also the thermal expansion of Optir™ glass is relatively close to that of aluminum. |
Infrared optics are available in a broad range of diameters from a few millimeters to 60mm with errors of less than 1/10 λ. Molding allows volume manufacturing without the high cost of capital equipment and skilled labor. Typical features of infrared optics from RPO are: • Wavelength 1-14µm • Aspheric and spherical surfaces • Form accuracy: 1/10 λ to 1/4 λ • Germanium broadband AR coatings • Germanium hard DLC AR coatings |
